WHERE I'VE BEEN

    HOW DID WE GET HERE

Evelyn Pacheco made history as Nevada’s first Black Female to be licensed as a Plumber, an Army Veteran, Mother, and Grand Mother. While working at Fitzgerald Casino in the Engineering Department,  a co-worker told her about a Union Training Program with the Plumbers, Pipefitters, and HVAC UA Local Union 525. She applied and after five years of working as an Apprentice while taking care of her family, Evelyn made history as Nevada’s first licensed Black female plumber. Letting Women know that it doesn’t matter how hard your life is or was, you can still make something of your life. She has leveraged her experience to help all Women through her “Nevada Women In Trades” organization, a non-profit organization formed specifically to increase the number of Women in trades. It is a signature program called “Pipelines”.  It is a 190-hour pre-apprenticeship training delivered in small group classes 20 hours a week over a six-week period and 4 Saturdays. Pipeline students will receive their certification of completion in OSHA and CPR/FIRST AID, Forklift Awareness, participate in trade facility visits, and attend presentations by trade representatives. NVWIT is increasing the number of Women in the Nevada workforce, specifically in highly skilled blue-collar (trade) occupations. January 28, 2020 marked the first-ever graduation ceremony for Nevada Women in Trades. NLV Council Woman Pamela Goynes-Brown was the keynote speaker and presented the graduates with their certificates at the ceremony held at NLV City Hall. December 17, 2020, marked the first online class and our 2nd graduation with our keynote speaker Senator Scott Hammond. We had our 3rd and 4th graduation at the Clark County building on April 1st and September 2nd of 2021, and our keynote speaker was Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy ll. On September 10th-11th, we had our 1st National Alliance of Women In Trades Summit at the Mirage Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Even during the pandemic, Nevada Women In Trades has helped the women in the community to get into the blue-collar workforce and wealth building. NVWIT Pipelines Comprehensive Program (PCC) initiatives increase career opportunities in the construction industry for Low-Income, Re-Entry, Ex-Prisoners, Veterans, Homeless, and Disenfranchised Women.
